Commercial Printers Can Handle Anything (Nearly)

Stuffed Rover Through the Printer

I love a challenge, especially when it means we can test the machinery in the print shop to breaking point. I know it’s probably just a guy thing, but pushing the limits is what took the human race from munching bananas in the trees to being able to munch bananas in a Space Shuttle.

So we decided to see just what kind of materials we can actually run through the printing machinery, and still get a decent result with.  Paper is no challenge, nor is cardboard, as that’s just bread and butter stuff for commercial printers. Clothing we can do as well, so T shirts, jumpers, flags, socks – even sandals, no problem.  It really is a case of – if it’s flat, and will take the toner, we can print on it.

The limit of our experiment was food.  Doughnuts are not so good and taste funny afterwards (maybe if we hadn’t used the jam ones?), and the cleaning up is a pain.  So while we can print on a wide range of products, we can’t actually print pictures of pop stars on to pizzas so we can market them to spotty stalkers who want to be able to say they’ve had a bite of Kylie Minogues rear end.

Shame – I really thought we were on to a winner with that one.

We have upped our game... now it's your turn.
